(NASDAQ: MBLX) and Archer Daniels Midland Company today announced that Telles received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for the formulated products Mirel™ F1005 and F1006, food contact injection molding grades for use in food contact applications. Metabolix Announces that Pharmafilter will use Mirel™ Bioplastics in Innovative Hospital Waste Management Systems
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. October 19, 2009 – Pharmafilter BV, a bioenergy technology company based in Amsterdam, has selected Mirel bioplastics for a suite of disposable products for hospital use. Pharmafilter BV is currently commercializing its patented Pharmafilter system as a cleaner, more efficient way for hospitals and the healthcare industry to reduce contaminated solid waste, food, and wastewater through anaerobic digestion. The Pharmafilter process reduces solid waste first through a grinding station and then through a series of purification steps, including anaerobic digestion. Outputs are biogas for fuel or power generation, biomass for energy conversion, and clean water.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 24, 2009 – Mirel bioplastic resins produced by Telles, its joint venture with Archer Daniels Midland Company, have been certified compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), an independent North American certifier of compostable material. BPI certification shows that Mirel base resins comply with the specifications established in the American Society for Testing and Materials standard ASTM D6400 for composting in a professionally managed composting facility.

Mirel opens Lowell, MA headquarters
Mirel is marketed and sold through Telles™, a 50/50 joint
venture between Metabolix and Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM). ADM has
begun construction of the world’s first Mirel bioplastics resins
plant in Clinton, Iowa. This new facility will produce 110 million
pounds of Mirel per year with start up scheduled for late 2008. The new Telles
